Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 2 celery ribs, chopped
  • 28 ounces canned tomatoes, drained
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon dried savory
  • 1/2 cup fresh breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg

Instructions

Follow each step in order. The directions below are written so a beginner can understand what to do, what to look for, and when to move on to the next step.

  1. Step 1.Make the pastry and chill it until firm.
  2. Step 2.Cook onion, celery and garlic in oil until softened.
  3. Step 3.Brown pork and beef, breaking it into small pieces.
  4. Step 4.Add tomatoes, cinnamon and savory and simmer until thick.
  5. Step 5.Stir in breadcrumbs and cool the filling completely.
  6. Step 6.Line a pie plate with rolled pastry and add the filling.
  7. Step 7.Top with the remaining pastry, seal, vent and egg-wash.
  8. Step 8.Bake at 375°F (190°C) until deeply browned, then rest before slicing.
